Stuff you didn't know about Richie McCaw:

Richie McCaw scored 99.4% in sixth form mathematics, getting the last question of the exam wrong.

As an 18-year-old, Richie McCaw wrote down his objective to become an All Black by 2004. He beat his target by 3 years when he debuted in 2001.

England and Lions player Tom Palmer played rugby at Otago Boys High School with Richie McCaw and represented NZ secondary schools in 1997. He spent time with his friend on the McCaw farm in Hakataramea.

In 1997, Otago's Richie McCaw missed out on NZ secondary schools' selection to Christchurch's Sam Harding. Following school Harding was attracted to Otago, so McCaw agreed to a scholarship at Lincoln in Canterbury.

Richie McCaw also played across 15 seasons between 2001 and 2015, earning 148 test caps. Colin Meads also played a record 15 seasons with the All Blacks, earning 55 test matches between 1957 and 1971. But Hugo Porta's career for Argentina spanned 20 seasons, and 58 tests, between 1971 and 1990.
