Whilst the 1914 All Blacks were playing a Sydney club team the scoreboard announced to the crowd that war had been declared against Germany. On the trip home the entire All Blacks team made a pact to serve their country. Twelve All Blacks were later killed in WW1 - the most famous of which was captain Dave Gallaher.
