Father's Day rugby

When the All Blacks play Australia tomorrow, Sept 5th, it will be the first test match played by the All Blacks on Father's Day. It will also be the first Father's Day test match to screen during the day, where father's all around NZ can relax with a beer and indulge themselves with some live rugby action.
The closest example of such a Father's Day treat was in 2006 when the All Blacks lost to South Africa in Rustenburg - conceding a late penalty to spoil many fathers' mornings, losing 21 - 20. Although this game was played on a Saturday night, it was breakfast viewing for NZ fathers.
There have been three other days that may have featured on Father's Day NZ time...

Tribute to Andy Haden

A tribute to All Black great Andy Haden who passed this week at the age of 69. He played 117 matches for the All Blacks over 13 seasons, and 41 tests between 1977 and 1985. On our Era-Adjusted Caps calculation he would have played 92.25 caps in the modern era. Of course, he was both smart and controversial - in 1983 when he wrote his autobiography 'Boots 'n All' he claimed that his occupation was a professional writer. By doing so he could avoid penalties from the rugby union for the receipt of the book royalties.
