Tribute to Andy Haden

A tribute to All Black great Andy Haden who passed this week at the age of 69. He played 117 matches for the All Blacks over 13 seasons, and 41 tests between 1977 and 1985. On our Era-Adjusted Caps calculation he would have played 92.25 caps in the modern era. Of course, he was both smart and controversial - in 1983 when he wrote his autobiography 'Boots 'n All' he claimed that his occupation was a professional writer. By doing so he could avoid penalties from the rugby union for the receipt of the book royalties.

Hansen's Replacements

The use of just 7 replacements during the All Black's recent test match against Argentina was the first occasion in almost 4 years where the All Blacks have not elected to clear their bench. For the last 43 tests, going back to the 2015 World Cup, all 8 subs have earnt test match caps.
